He is a friendly and interested little boy who wants to check out his world. His host family says that in his first week with them, he spent most days exploring his new world. He likes simple, younger child activities since he is only 5. He has played with Legos and magnetic letters, drawn with pens and crayons, pushed toy shopping carts around filled with food cartons, and helped put away laundry. He also likes playing in the bathtub.
During his first few days in the hosting program, he ate a lot and wanted to have food around and in his pockets all the time! This stopped by his third day and he ate closer to normal amounts of food. He will eat a few bites of something and then move on to other foods. He especially likes fruit! At night, he falls asleep very quickly if host mama is there beside the bed. He wakes up 2-4 times each night crying to go to the bathroom, but he does not always go when taken to the bathroom. He goes to sleep around 8 and wakes up around 8.
He’s so sweet and funny and we want so much to help him — we love him already, and he’s easy to love. All of that makes it exciting and rewarding and special. But it’s also challenging – for us it has been a return to having a toddler in many ways — a clingy toddler who has lots to say but whom we cannot understand. His particular habits of multiple night wakings and extreme car sickness add to the complexity, although they don’t take away from how attached we have become to him.
