Family Voices: Down Syndrome Awareness Month

October is #DownSyndromeAwarenessMonth! Children with Down Syndrome are often overlooked in adoption, but as many of our CCAI families will tell you, these kids bring so much love and joy into our lives!

Right now there are over 400 children with Down Syndrome on the Shared List hoping to find their forever families. We talked with 2 CCAI families that have adopted kiddos with Down Syndrome to see how these children brighten their lives!

Lora, momma of 2 beautiful girls with Down Syndrome, says:

“What is so special about children adopted with Down syndrome? My answer is that they are delightful. Delightful in their joy and exuberance. Our two girls with Down syndrome came home this last spring from China through CCAI. While I knew that our girls were beyond precious from their photo and video updates, I had no idea how much joy they would bring to our home. They very quickly blended right in with the rest of the family, and are pretty much adored by us all.

Their expressions, their responses, and their affection are so genuine and uninhibited. Their unbridled joy tends to rub off on whomever they are around. Not that they don’t have their own moments, because they can be stubborn and have good and bad days like everybody else. Truly, though, they are little rays of sunshine in our home.”
