#TravelTuesday The Journey to Your Roots

Families were able to discover the wonders of China and learn about the history and beauty of their child’s homeland for the past week and a half. Ben’s dad shares their once of a life-time experience:

“It started out like most any other day, yet it was not an ordinary day. On this day Ben would be going back to his roots. Much like the day when we first went to China to expand our family with the addition of Ben, we would board a flight with bags in hand heading out on somewhat of an unknown experience, and yet this time it was to experience through Ben’s eyes the country he was born in, and the people whom he shares a heritage.

To say Ben was excited would be like calling the Great Wall a pile of bricks. Even though he had spent time learning about what he was going to see, it could never have had truly prepared him for what adventures and experiences he has now lived.

The Heritage Tour is an amazingly well organized and thought our experience of a life-time as well as it is a fun-packed cultural taste that you could never get any other way. Every second of every day is so well planned, not only for learning and experiencing the rich and long heritage of the Chinese people, but it also has melded in just the right amount of time for the families, if you so desire, to adventure out and enjoy on your own in a safe way. What makes all this go so seamlessly is the fact that the Heritage Tours gives you truly a local taste of each city that you are in, but having someone from that city and culture be your local guide for each new location. What this brings is a true-life experience and insight that you could never receive any other way.

China has a vast history that could of course never be completely experienced in one tour, yet the Heritage Tour has taken us on a journey of a life-time that is so deep in culture and historical experiences from the Great Wall of China, to the amazing vastness of the Terra-Cotta Warrior museum, and from the playful warmth of the mountain side Panda reserve in Chengdu, to the majestic and beauty of the mountains of the Lijiang river boat cruise.

This trip was not only a journey of a life time, it was a journey through a life time of the History of China that Ben will cherish forever.”

img_3280Bundled up, they have braved the Great Wall, Tiananmen square, the Temple of Heaven and the Forbidden City. The families then received a warm welcome at the CCCWA, where “matches” are made!

In addition to being thankful for warm coats, families are also bonding with each other and adoptees are able to reconnect with their place of birth. The next stops on their tour are Xi’an and the Terracotta Warriors.

  • “A trip of a life time! A wonderful gift for the adoptee, worth every cent”
  • “The whole tour was extremely well laid out and planned. We got to see a tremendous amount in a short time. It was tiring but definitely worth it.”
  • “We felt very prepared for the trip. It is a physically challenging trip with lots of changing of places and hotels, but we were prepared. It was wonderful.”
  • “We loved everything about the trip. From the size of the groups, the sites, the activities, etc. We thank everyone for their part in making this trip a reality for us. It exceeded our expectations in so many ways. The only bad part……it’s over!”
  • “Thank you so much for this opportunity. All in all it was a wonderful trip and the highlight for me was the magic of seeing my daughter begin to reconnect with her homeland. This trip helped her recognize the connection she’ll always have between her Chinese roots and her American life. She says she can’t wait to go back again!”

CCAI Spring Heritage Tour

Seventy-five adopted children and parents kicked off their exciting Spring Heritage Tour on March 21st in Beijing. They were welcomed by the Director-General of China Center for Children’s Welfare & Adoption (CCCWA) and got to tour the CCCWA facility, even getting the chance to step into the “Matching Room” where families are formed every day! Children and parents were also able to squeeze in many other unforgettable cultural and sight-seeing activities into their busy schedule — climbing the breathtaking Great Wall, walking the famous Tiananmen Square, experiencing the mesmerizing army of Terra Cotta soldiers, hugging some fluffy giant pandas, cruising down the beautiful Li River, and enjoying a variety of Chinese traditional cuisines. But, arguably the most treasured moment came at the end of the trip, when the travelers had the opportunity to visit their old orphanages and see the place where they once lived before their adoption. (CCCWA)

The weather was kind and the experiences unforgettable.  After 11 days of jam-packed touring, we’ll get to welcome everyone back Stateside this weekend!

In Mid-June, CCAI’s Adopteen will lead their first Adoptees Giving Back service trip to Henan Province to volunteer at several orphanages for two weeks!  Then, in late June and early July, a group of families and children will have to opportunity to attend a week-long Cultural Camp in Beijing, only to be followed in mid-July by another 220 children and parents who will embark on their Summer Heritage Tour!

To put it simply:  There are SO MANY great things going on, both here at CCAI and across the Pacific Ocean. We can barely contain our excitement!
