In the year of 2012, CCAI welcomed home 478 children to the CCAI Family and touched the lives of more than 2600 orphans still waiting in China, Haiti, and D.R. Congo through the Children Charity Fund. JCCC’s enrollment numbers were strong, Adopteen held its largest national Camp-Conference up to this date with 76 teens, CCAI coordinated the largest Heritage Tour in China’s history in July with 403 travellers, and we celebrated an amazing Two Decades and 10,000 Lives anniversary with our CCAI families on a fabulous Disney cruise! It was an incredible, exhilarating year and we end this year with full hearts and giddy excitement for all that is to come!
CCAI’s 2013 is starting out with a bang with the grand opening of our Post Adoption Center and D.R. Congo Adoption program (!). CCAI will then host our first National Waiting Child Medical Forum in February, travel with our Heritage Tours in March and July, coordinate the first-ever Adoptees Giving Back Service Trip with Adopteen in Mid-June, and host our 19th Annual National Reunion on June 29. And that’s all before July! You are going to want to keep your eyes and ears peeled for more BIG news. We promise to continue to work our hardest in 2013 to achieve the life-changing impact of our steafast efforts on behalf of orphans, adoptive children and our families!
From our home to yours, we wish you all the happiest of holidays!
32 families took off on CCAI’s Winter Heritage Tour last week and celebrated Christmas in Beijing! With clear blue skies and record-breakingly frigid temperatures, the families spent their first day in Beijing visiting Tian’an Men Square and CCCWA. We’ll try to keep in touch with their travels!
A special visit to the CCCWA
This is where it all happens! The children got to review some dossiers 😉

CCAI co-founders, Josh and Lily, celebrated CCAI’s founding Board Member Dr. Covell’s 90th birthday and presented him with CCAI’s Legacy Award for his 20 years of passionate support for CCAI.
On December 23, CCAI Co-founders Josh and Lily paid a special visit to Dr. Ralph Covell who turned 90 on this very special day! Dr. Covell is the founding board member of CCAI and was CCAI’s first Chairman of the Board. For 20 years, Dr. Covell has been deeply involved in promoting CCAI’s mission and contributed greatly to the continued success of CCAI. On behalf of CCAI and its entire board, Josh and Lily presented Dr. Covell the Legacy Award for his outstanding service of two decades to orphaned children.
A former missionary to China in the 40’s and Academic Dean and Professor emeritus of Denver Seminary, Dr. Covell is a well-know Christian educator, pastor, prolific writer, and Chinese language expert.
Happy Birthday, Dr. Covell!
Last week, a HKI (Henan Kids International) mom raised $600 for Kaifeng Orphanage and Xinxiang Orphanage and bought new chairs for the children! Woohoo!
Thanks to a generous donation from HKI, Kaifeng and Xinxiang Orphanage received new chairs for their children!
Through her “Loops with Love” fund, CCAI mom, Diana, helped raise enough money to build a milk kitchen for the Xinxiang Orphanage in Henan Province! This is the second milk kitchen “Loops with Love” has helped fund! Their daughter, Lily, was adopted from Xinxiang Orphanage and this gift was so special to them!
Thanks to “Loops with Love”, Xinxiang Orphanage got a fantastic milk kitchen!
Throughout the year, families donate their time and money to CCAI’s many sponsorship programs in China through the Children Charity Fund. Such programs help provide much-needed care to orphans and orphanages who otherwise would not be able to afford it.
The children and communities you helped this year wanted to extend their holiday wishes and thank you’s!

Last Friday, CCAI hosted a social worker training, led by our Director of Adoptions, Judy Winger, our Post-Adoption Manager, Heather Diaz, and CCAI social worker and parent trainer, Cheri Van Vinkle. The training session served as an introduction to Trust-Based Relational Intervention (TBRI) strategies, a program developed by TCU’s Dr. Karen Purvis. This was the first social worker training meeting of two, in preparation for CCAI’s Post Adoption Center’s big debut in the new year!
CCAI’s Post Adoption Center (PAC) will be making its debut with a TBRI Overview class offered both January 5, 2013 and February 9, 2013. PAC will then be introducing its first 8-week course for parents, that will delve more into the specifics of TBRI parenting strategies every Tuesday, March 5 – April 30, 2013. These courses are offered for everyone and all are absolutely welcome!
To learn more about what CCAI’s Post Adoption Center will have to offer, please call our fantastic Post-Adoption Manager, Heather, at (303) 850-9998 x22.
To learn more about Dr. Karen Purvis and her research, please visit TCU’s Institute of Child Development.
It was a bittersweet goodbye last Friday, as CCAI celebrated Shirley Hall’s retirement from social work with a cookie exchange.
Shirley Hall joined CCAI as a social worker in 1994 and is the genius innovator behind CCAI’s fantastic parent training program, starting it from the ground up back in 1999. She has served hundreds of CCAI families, driving to the farthest corners of CO to meet with families and never once asking for trip cost covers. 😀 She is the most dedicated, passionate, professional, committed, and beloved social worker CCAI has had the privilege to call our own for the past 18 years and we wish her a well-deserved, relaxing-yet-adventure-filled retirement! Thank you, Shirley!!
